Katie Jenkins is a former Leader of the Cardiff and Vale Youth Orchestra. She made her

conducting debut with the Orchestra in July 2018 with a performance of her own work,

“Flight 734”.

 

Having studied at Howell’s School, Llandaff, she continued her education at The Juilliard School in New York where she gained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and held the Henry Mancini Fellowship. Katie has since joined the composition faculty at The Juilliard Pre-College.

 

Katie has provided music for New York Fashion Week, the New York City Ballet and NASA, amongst many others, and her works have been published and recorded by Hal Leonard.

 

“Symffoni’r Môr Mawr” (“Transatlantic Symphony”) has been commissioned as a gift from Wales to the USA on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The County Youth Orchestra is thrilled that Katie has been chosen to compose this very special work to mark this auspicious occasion.
